24 Hour Media Diary

In this weeks blog, I was assigned to document my media usage over the course of 24 hours to get a clearer picture of media habits and practices within my daily life.

Monday, January 8th

9am: Almost every morning, I start my day by checking all of my social media platforms including, Instagram, VSCO, Snapchat, and TikTok. I spent some extra time on TikTok today because I lost track of time.

10am: At this point in the morning, I had to get ready for work. Whenever I get ready for the day, I love to listen to music. I use Spotify as my music streaming service and I love it. This time I shuffled a “daylist” Spotify made for me with artists like, Taylor Swift, Mitski, and Olivia Rodrigo.

1:30pm: My shift today was 10:45-3:30pm, so on my 10 minute break I got caught up on all of my social media platforms.

3:30pm: On my way to work, I usually don’t listen to music, but on the way home, I like to re-energize myself by playing some fun music. This time I played the new “Wonka” soundtrack which I have been obsessed with. https://open.spotify.com/album/2JVBfHtsTmDQin2kyV8FKO

4:30pm: At this point in the day, I am ready to be productive and start working on some homework, since it is my first day of Spring semester. I used Canvas and Google Chrome. While doing my homework, I listened to some more music on Spotify. I shuffled on of my playlists titled “Piano,” which helps me focus.

5:30pm: After an hour of work, I took a break to check my phone and all of my social media platforms, once again. I also took this time to go eat dinner. After dinner I went to my churches Young Adults gathering at 6:30pm.

9:30pm: Once I got back, I went straight back to my computer to work on some more homework. I used Canvas and Google Chrome again to access my work. https://canvas.asu.edu/courses/170658

11pm: I ended the night with some time spent scrolling on TikTok to treat myself after hours of school.

What I learned from this assignment was that most of my media usage is in the form of music. I always knew I loved listening to music, but I found that any time I was in my car, or just at home, I would be playing music. Even at work, we play music.

Throughout my time of tracking my media usage, the most credible media source to me was BeReal. I am not one to look at the news or even search for informational things within media, so to me, BeReal is the most reliable social media app. Its purpose is to eliminate any untrustworthy and fake people portrayed in most social media apps, allowing users to be their true and authentic selves online. https://bereal.com/en/
